Footwear Impressions

What is footwear evidence?
Physical contact between footwear and a viable surface may leave a transfer of class and individual characteristics, which can aid in identificatio. There are three types of footwear impressions that can be left as evidence:
- LATENT-Created by static charges; unable to see with naked eye, requires some type of physical or chemical development
- VISIBLE-A transfer of residue or trace material from the shoe to the surface
- PLASTIC OR PATENT-A deformation of the surface by the shoe
