Southbound Bangerter Highway to close this weekend
May 28, 2025
Significant delays expected as crews work on sewers in Riverton, Bluffdale
The Utah Department of Transportation urges drivers to plan ahead for major lane closures and significant delays on Bangerter Highway between 12600 South and Redwood Road in Salt Lake County this weekend.
Starting at 10 p.m. on May 30 through 5 a.m. on June 2, southbound Bangerter Highway will be completely closed from 12600 South to 2700 West this weekend for sewer work.
Other travel restrictions this weekend will include:
- One lane closed on westbound/northbound Bangerter Highway between 2700 West and Redwood Road
- No north or southbound travel on 2700 West at Bangerter Highway
- No right turns for semi-trucks on southbound 2700 West onto westbound/northbound Bangerter Highway
UDOT recommends drivers detour via 12600 South and Redwood Road.

Both Bangerter projects in this area are nearing some significant milestones. Bridge beams at 13400 South are scheduled to be placed next week and the bridge deck of the 2700 West bridge will be poured early this summer.
For more than a decade, UDOT has been working to eliminate stoplights on Bangerter Highway by converting intersections into interchanges. UDOT is currently focused on upgrading 4700 South, 9800 South, 13400 South, and 2700 West.
Bangerter Highway is one of the Salt Lake Valley’s largest north-to-south corridors, moving an average of 60,000 vehicles per day. Removing stoplights and converting all intersections into freeway-style interchanges will enhance safety and help keep traffic moving in the thriving west side of the Salt Lake Valley.
In the future, stoplights from 4100 South to California Avenue will be removed as a continuation of UDOT’s efforts to move traffic throughout this vital corridor.
