Expect major delays on US-6 on the way back from July 4 celebrations on Sunday

UDOT estimates up to 50 minute delays for westbound US-6

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (July 1, 2025) — The Utah Department of Transportation is encouraging holiday travelers using westbound U.S. Route 6 to plan for heavy travel delays on Sunday, July 6.

UDOT traffic engineers estimate westbound US-6 will experience up to 50 minutes of additional delay between 11:30 a.m. and 7 p.m. on July 6, with peak delays occurring between 2:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.  US-6 near Wellington will be restricted to one lane in each direction to protect the work zone. Crews will be off the road for the holiday, however.

Several sections of Interstate 15 will experience minor travel delays on July 3, including:

  • Southbound I-15, Salt Lake County: Up to 10 minutes of additional delay between 3 p.m. and 7 p.m.
  • Northbound I-15, Salt Lake County: Up to 10 minutes of additional delay between 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.
  • Northbound I-15, Davis County: Up to 10 minutes of additional delay between 3 p.m. and 7 p.m.

Across the state, most UDOT projects will suspend construction and open all lanes to traffic to help reduce delays over the holiday weekend, but certain existing lane restrictions or traffic shifts will remain in place as needed to protect the work zone and ensure safety.
