UDOT estimates travel delays on westbound US-6 this Labor Day Weekend

Highway down to one lane to protect work zone in Thistle

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (Aug. 28, 2025) — The Utah Department of Transportation is advising holiday drivers using westbound U.S. Route 6 to plan for moderate travel delays on Monday, Sept. 1.

UDOT traffic engineers estimate drivers on westbound US-6 will experience up to 30 minutes of additional delay between 11 a.m. and 8 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 1, with peak delays occurring between 2:30 and 4 p.m.

Across the state, most UDOT projects will suspend construction and open all lanes to traffic to help reduce delays over the holiday weekend, but certain existing lane restrictions or traffic shifts will remain in place as needed to protect the work zone and ensure safety.

This includes both directions of US-6 from Diamond Fork Road to the U.S. Route 89 junction in Thistle. The highway is reduced to one lane while crews install several concrete median barriers, improve overhead lighting and fix drainage systems in the area.

Several other routes will experience minor travel delays on Friday, Aug. 29, including:

  • Southbound Interstate 15, Salt Lake County: Up to 15 minutes of additional delay between 1 and 8 p.m., with peak delays occurring between 4 and 6 p.m.
  • Eastbound US-6: Up to 10 minutes of additional delay between 2 and 6 p.m., with peak delays occurring at 3 p.m.
