I-215 to close for 10 nights near Parleys Canyon

Crews repairing bridge beams over I-215 at the mouth of the canyon
SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (Oct. 15, 2025) — The Utah Department of Transportation is urging drivers to plan ahead for nightly closures of Interstate 215 near the mouth of Parleys Canyon in Salt Lake.
As early as 9 p.m. each night from Thursday, Oct. 16 through Saturday, Oct. 26, crews will close Interstate 215 near Tanner Park to repair three beams of the eastbound I-80 bridge that crosses over I-215 and heads into Parleys Canyon. The I-80 bridge into the canyon will remain open throughout the work, and I-215 will re-open by 6 a.m. on weekdays.
UDOT officials believe the bridge was likely damaged by an oversized truck earlier this year.
Drivers using State Route 186 (Foothill Drive) should avoid the Reno/Cheyenne exit leading to I-80, as this ramp merges with I-215 and will lead drivers to the closure. Anyone exiting SR-186 to Reno/Cheyenne will be forced to enter Parleys Canyon and use Mount Aire Canyon Road to turn around, creating significant delay.
During each nightly closure, I-215 drivers will be detoured to Foothill Drive.
Additional Work on I-15 This Weekend:
Drivers traveling through Northern Utah should also plan for lane closures on southbound I-15 lane between Riverdale Road and 5600 South this weekend:
- Friday, Oct. 17, from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 18: Southbound I-15 will be reduced to two lanes while crews work on pipes and drainage.
- Saturday, Oct. 18 from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 19: Southbound I-15 will be reduced to one lane while crews replace several concrete panels.
The southbound I-15 exit to 5600 South (Exit 338) will remain open during these lane closures.
All construction schedules are weather dependent and subject to change. Drivers are encouraged to check udottraffic.utah.gov or the UDOT Traffic app for the latest updates on closures, detours and travel conditions.
