SALT LAKE CITY (June 24, 2025) – The Utah Department of Transportation, in partnership with the Utah Transit Authority, invites the public to review and provide feedback on an environmental study at the Point of the Mountain, which identifies light rail as the Locally Preferred Alternative for a future high-capacity transit solution between Draper and Lehi.
The public is encouraged to participate in an online meeting Wednesday, June 25, from 5-6 p.m. where the project team will review the study’s findings and provide more detail about the Locally Preferred Alternative, including plans for a phased implementation approach.
A 30-day comment period is open through July 10, 2025. Formal comments can be submitted:
- Via email to pointtransit@utah.gov
- Online at udotinput.utah.gov/pointtransit
- By phone at 385-374-9992
- By U.S. postal mail to: Point of the Mountain Transit EA, 1265 Fort Union Blvd., Suite 200, Salt Lake City, UT 84047
While full funding for the project has not yet been allocated, UDOT and UTA have worked together to plan for expected growth at the Point of the Mountain.
“We are looking long term to provide the best transportation options for Utahns,” UDOT Trails and Transit Director Josh Van Jura said. “The public input we’re seeking is an important step as we designate a rail corridor that will support the development projected in the future.”
UTA Project Manager Marcus Bennett said, “Utah is thriving, and we’re partnering closely with UDOT on a range of future transportation solutions. Completing the environmental assessment at Point of the Mountain allows the light rail project to access funding when it becomes available.”
