Notice of Public Hearing
Project: SR-56; Iron Springs High T Intersection PIN #21590
OPPORTUNITY FOR A PUBLIC HEARING AND PUBLIC COMMENTS
The Utah Department of Transportation is conducting an environmental study (Categorical Exclusion) to evaluate the potential environmental impacts associated with the widening of SR-56 near the intersection with Iron Springs Road west of Cedar City, Utah. The improvements would convert the existing intersection to an unsignalized High-T intersection with the following changes:
- Reduce the number of through lanes on SR-56 from two lanes each direction to a single lane each direction with painted buffers between through lanes and turn lanes.
- Restrict movements onto SR-56 from the south leg (5300 West) to right-in / right-out only.
- Provide full length deceleration lanes and turn pockets for eastbound left turns and westbound right turns onto Iron Springs Road.
- Provide full length acceleration lanes for southbound left turns onto SR-56.
The project will include pavement widening on SR-56 and Iron Springs Road, updates to signing and striping, and drainage improvements.
UDOT encourages area residents and businesses to attend a Public Hearing to be held in an open house-type format for the proposed roadway improvements on Thursday, June 12, 2025 from 5 – 6:30 p.m. in the Iron Springs Elementary School, 235 N 4050 W, Cedar City, UT. The Public Hearing will be attended by project team members to discuss the project design and answer questions. Also provided will be informational display boards, project information handouts, and provisions to accommodate oral and written comments.
