UDOT to close Bangerter Highway near Salt Lake International Airport this weekend

UDOT advises drivers to expect delays and follow detours as crews perform bridge maintenance of the Bangerter Highway bridge over SR-201.

The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) advises drivers to plan ahead for a full closure of the Bangerter Highway bridge over SR-201 near Salt Lake International Airport this weekend.

Starting Friday, June 14, at 8 p.m., the Bangerter Highway bridge over SR-201 will close in both directions while crews perform bridge repairs and replace the asphalt driving surface to provide a comfortable ride for drivers. The road is scheduled to reopen on Monday, June 17, at 5 a.m., in time for the morning commute.

To access northbound Bangerter Highway from eastbound SR-201, drivers should take exit 14 to 3200 West, take the turnaround onto westbound SR-201 and exit at Bangerter Highway. To access southbound Bangerter Highway from westbound SR-201, drivers should take exit 11 to 5600 West, take the turnaround to eastbound SR-201 and exit at Bangerter Highway.

UDOT is performing maintenance on 62 Salt Lake County bridges this summer to address the impacts of recent severe winters.

Drivers should expect delays for other maintenance projects in Salt Lake County over the next week:

  • Near Parley’s Canyon, the ramp from westbound I-80 to southbound I-215 will be closed nightly, Sunday through Thursday, through the end of July for rockfall protection work to make the area safer for drivers. To access southbound I-215, drivers should continue west on I-80 to the 1300 East Sugarhouse exit (Exit 130), take the turnaround to eastbound I-80, and continue to the I-215 on-ramp. The area will also have intermittent lane closures on I-80 and I-15 as crews repave the area for a more comfortable drive. Expect delays.
  • Expect major delays on I-80 near 6000 West next week. I-80 will be restricted to one lane in each direction between 5600 West and 7200 West starting Monday, June 17, at 5 a.m. for approximately 2 weeks. During this time, crews will be performing bridge maintenance.
