UDOT alerts travelers of weekend Bangerter Highway closure in South Jordan

Crews to install pedestrian bridge overnight
The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) is urging motorists to plan ahead for a full overnight closure of Bangerter Highway in South Jordan on Friday night.
Starting Friday, Nov. 15, at 10 p.m., crews will close both directions of travel on Bangerter Highway from 9000 South to 10400 South to install a new pedestrian bridge. The highway is scheduled to reopen by 5 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 16. Traffic will be detoured off the highway onto 2700 or 4000 West, then back onto Bangerter Highway (see detour map below).
Once finished, the bridge will provide safer access to neighborhoods, Elk Meadows Elementary School and Elk Ridge Middle School.
Construction in this area is part of UDOT’s decade-long efforts to eliminate stoplights on Bangerter Highway by converting intersections into interchanges. In addition to 9800 South, UDOT is building interchanges at 13400 South, 4700 South and 2700 West.
Bangerter Highway is one of the valley’s largest north-to-south corridors, moving an average of 60,000 vehicles per day. Removing stoplights and converting all intersections into freeway-style interchanges will enhance safety and help keep traffic moving in the ever-growing west side of the Salt Lake Valley.
Travelers should also be aware of the following construction work while planning their routes this weekend:
- Salt Lake City: Crews will close ramps and lanes this weekend to install overhead signs. Closures will occur in the following areas:
- The on-ramp from 500 South to I-15 will be closed on Friday, Nov. 15, from 11 p.m. to 8 a.m.
- Three southbound lanes from 900 South to 1300 South, the off-ramp to exit 305 C-A (1300 South, 2100 South and westbound SR-201) and two lanes I-15 in both directions from 5300 South to 4500 South will be closed on Sunday, Nov. 17, from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m.
- The northbound Bangerter Highway on-ramp to I-80 and North Temple will be closed on Monday, Nov. 18, from 11 p.m. to 2 a.m.
- Magna: On Thursday, Nov. 14, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., eastbound travel on I-80 will be reduced to one lane near Great Salt Lake State Park as crews repair pavement recently damaged by a semi-truck fire.
Construction schedules are weather-dependent and subject to change.
