UDOT alerts travelers of weekend Bangerter Highway closures in South Jordan and Taylorsville

Crews to install pedestrian bridge, complete utility work

The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) is urging motorists to plan ahead for weekend closures of Bangerter Highway in South Jordan and Taylorsville.

Starting Friday, Nov. 22, at 10 p.m., crews will close both directions of travel on Bangerter Highway from 9000 South to 10400 South to install a new pedestrian bridge. This work was rescheduled from last weekend, when snowy weather delayed the bridge move.

The highway is scheduled to reopen by 5 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 23. Traffic will be detoured off the highway onto 2700 or 4000 West, then back onto Bangerter Highway (see detour map below).

Once finished, the bridge will provide safer access to neighborhoods, Elk Meadows Elementary School and Elk Ridge Middle School.

Additionally, on Friday, Nov. 22 at 9 p.m. through Sunday, Nov. 24, at 7 a.m., crews will restrict travel on the west side of 4700 South and Bangerter Highway for utility work. During this time, access from southbound Bangerter Highway to westbound 4700 South and access from eastbound 4700 South to southbound Bangerter Highway will be closed. Alternate routes are available at 4100 South and 5400 South via 4000 West (see second detour map below).

Construction in both of these areas is part of UDOT’s decade-long efforts to eliminate stoplights on Bangerter Highway by converting intersections into interchanges. In addition to 9800 and 4700 South, UDOT is building interchanges at 13400 South and 2700 West.

Bangerter Highway is one of the valley’s largest north-to-south corridors, moving an average of 60,000 vehicles per day. Removing stoplights and converting all intersections into freeway-style interchanges will enhance safety and help keep traffic moving in the ever-growing west side of the Salt Lake Valley.

Travelers should also be aware of the following construction work while planning their routes this weekend:

  • Spanish Fork: Three lanes of north and southbound I-15 between US-6 in Spanish Fork and 400 South (in Springville) will be closed on Saturday, Nov. 23, from 8 p.m. to Sunday, Nov. 24, at 8 a.m. for overhead power line work.
  • Ogden Canyon: SR-39 through Ogden Canyon will be closed on Sunday, Nov. 24, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. for drainage maintenance work. Canyon residents will be allowed to access the route.
  • Huntsville and Woodruff: Monte Cristo Highway (SR-39) from Ant Flat Road to Woodruff will be closed on Wednesday, Nov. 27, for winter weather. It will remain out of service until spring.
  • Tooele: Expect short-term ramp closures of Exit 94 and 99 on both directions of I-80 Thursday, Nov. 21 through Sunday, Nov 24, between the hours of 7 a.m. and 10 p.m. as crews place new lane striping on bridges.

Construction schedules are weather-dependent and subject to change.
